Small Groups
Definition: A group of 5-12 people with whom I meet regularly for discipleship, prayer, accountability, fun, authentic care and service.
Scripture: "They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts."
Acts 2:46b
We take small groups seriously. We don't want to be a church with small groups, we want to be a church of small groups. We launched small groups in January 2008 and have approximately 50% of our congregation meeting in them. We are excited to see what God will be doing in and through them.
Groups are meeting in various south and southwest suburbs, with more locations anticipated soon.
Groups are working through the following studies:
- Margins, by Richard Swenson
- Dangerous Faith, by Joel Vestal
- Mere Christianity, by C.S. Lewis
- Screwtape Letters, by C.S. Lewis
- That the World May Know,, by Ray VanDerLaan
- The Truth Project, by Del Tackett
- Doing Life Together", by Purpose Driven Ministries
- James, A Life Application Bible Study
Groups have served our community in several ways. Some examples include:
- Battered Women's Shelters
- "Feed My Starving Children", Ministries
- Baby Shower for a Muslim mother-to-be
- Food shelves and Community Free Meal Programs
